This weekend admission to two home basketball games at the University of Maine at Machias will be free to anyone bringing a donated gift for a local family. This gift drive will take place at the men's game on Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. and the women's game on Sunday, December 9 at 1 p.m. Both teams will play against Central Maine Community College. Gifts should not be wrapped, and will be donated to the Community Christmas Giving Tree.
"As part of the community, UMM Athletics is excited to join the Community Christmas Giving Tree in their efforts to bring a joyful holiday season to families in Machias and the Downeast Region," says UMM Director of Athletics, Mike Belanger. "We hope to have big crowds at the games to support this great cause."
A list of suggested gift items includes: new toys and puzzles for all ages (no electronics, please), clothing (especially hoodies and sweatshirts for teens), sports equipment, and books.
The Community Christmas Giving Tree is a volunteer organization committed to providing Christmas for children in low-income families, adults with developmental disabilities, and the elderly in need in Downeast Maine.
