The University of Maine at Machias' Men's and Women's soccer teams recently completed successful seasons. Both qualified for the USCAA National Tournament held in West Virginia. The Lady Clippers made it by way of an at-large bid, while the men won the Yankee Small College Conference Tournament to automatically qualify. While down south, both sides competed in exciting games against quality competition. In their first game, the Lady Clippers tied eighth-seeded Penn College 1-1, leading to two overtimes before they eventually lost in penalty kicks. In their consolation game, the Lady Clippers would defeat Paul Smith's College handily, by a score of 5-0. The men won their first game against Penn State Brandywine impressively, 6-1, before losing to West Virginia University Tech (7-1) and Rochester College (4-3). Both Luis Herrera and Craig Kelly were named to the Academic All-American team. Olaff Mina received All-American First Team honors while Tyler Troup and Alfredo Palacios made the All-American Second Team. The Lady Clippers finished their season 16-3-2 overall, while the men ended the season 19-4. This was definitely a banner year for both teams, and bright things seem to be in store for the future!
