The 2013-14 season marks the first year for new head coach Brendan Owens. The UMass-Amherst graduate comes to UMM after spending last season interning on-the-court with the Springfield Armor of the NBA Development League. Led by coach Bob MacKinnon, the Armor had the greatest turnaround in league history and won the Eastern Conference Championship. The Brooklyn Nets owned team featured 3 players who received NBA call-ups during the course of the season.
Prior to working with the Armor, Owens was an assistant coach at both Thomas College and Massachusetts College. Assisting coach TJ Maines at Thomas College, Owens was part of the 2008-09 North Atlantic Conference coaching staff of the year, and helped set the school record for most wins in a single season (18). Owens began his coaching career at Frontier Regional High in Massachusetts with a Red Hawks team that won the 2007-08 Massachusetts State Championship.
The son of Dana and Donna Owens, Brendan will also be working in the O'Brien Admissions House.
