Hot Shooting Clippers Sail Past Seawolves

Machias, ME- The University of Maine at Machias men's basketball team defeated Southern Maine CC 78-63 in a Saturday afternoon game in the Reynolds Center.  The win improves the Clippers to 11-6 overall and 8-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference standings. 

The hot shooting Clippers shot 51% (27-53) from the field and 59% (10-17) from the three point line to lead to the victory.  The Clippers had four players score in double figures led by Elias Gutierrez with 26 points, Floyd Higgins 17, Erick Andrews and Brian Getchell 10.  AC Ford tallied 11 assists for the game.  The Clippers defense was also solid holding the Seawolves to 33% (24-72) shooting for the game. The Seawolves were led by Tong Akot with 19 points.

Clipper Coach Brac Brady was very happy with the game, "That is as well as we have played all year.  We competed hard on both ends of the court.  We made plays at both ends of the court and played with energy and enthusiasm.  SMCC is an outstanding team that didn't shoot very well today, but I was very happy with the way the team came together today. "

The Clippers return to action Sunday, January 26th when they face the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the Reynolds Center. Tip for the game is at 3 pm.
