Clippers Hang On For Victory

Machias, ME- The University of Maine at Machias men's basketball team defeated Vermont Tech 68-62 in a Friday afternoon game in the Reynolds Center.  The win improves the Clippers to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference standings. 

The Clippers played a strong first half leading to a 36-28 lead at the break.  After extending the lead to as many as fifteen early in the half the Knights chipped away at the lead cutting it to 4 late in the game.  The Clippers held on for the victory behind 18 points from Elias Gutierrez and 17 points from Floyd HigginsAaron Van Buren also netted double figures scoring 10.  Brian Getchell led all rebounders with 10 and AC Ford tallied 6 assists.  The Knights were led by Jamal Hughes with 30 points and Andrew Scott 11 points.

Clipper Coach Brac Brady was pleased with the outcome, "I was happy that we improved as a team today.  Our execution was better  today and we were much more patient offensively. It will be fun to see how good we can be when our execution and ability to finish matches our willingness to be patient."

The Clippers return to action Saturday, January 11th when they face Fisher College in the Reynolds Center. Tip for the game is at 3 pm.
