Machias, ME- The University of Maine at Machias men's basketball team lost a Yankee Conference game to Eastern Maine Community College Tuesday night at the Reynolds Center. The Clippers got off to a slow start in the game falling behind by 13 at the half 42-29. A better effort in the second half sparked a run for the Clippers that cut the lead to 6 with 12:35 to go in the game. The game went back and forth from that point on and Eastern Maine hit several clutch shots down the stretch to spread the score to an 80-64 final.
The Clippers got a strong effort from Hampton Mack with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Will Lewis and Floyd Higgins each scored in double figures with 14 and 10 respectively. Lewis also led the game in assists with 7.
Clipper Coach Brac Brady commented after the game, "I was proud of the effort we showed in the second half, we didn't give up. I just wish we would have shot the ball better. Its not like us to shoot that poorly, especially at home. Give all the credit to Eastern Maine, they are a quality team."
The Clippers shot a dismal 4-24 from the three point line and only shot 37% from the field. Eastern Maine had a hot hand shooting 55% from the field including eight three point baskets. Eastern Maine is currently the number one ranked USCAA division two team in the country and Machias is currently ranked sixth in the same poll.
The Clippers are back in action this weekend playing three games, Friday at Central Maine, Saturday at Southern Maine and Sunday back home against New Hampshire Tech.
