at Machias Athletic Director Brac Brady announced today that Amy Fritz has been
selected to be the coach of the women's volleyball program. Amy is no stranger to the Clipper athletic
program, she has served as the assistant coach for the volleyball program the
last two years. Fritz takes over the
program from John Duncan who left Machias for personal reasons. The volleyball team finished the 2009 season
with an 8-23 record.
Amy has been involved in volleyball since she started
playing in high school at WashingtonAcademy
(East Machias, ME)
in the late 70's. After graduating from WashingtonAcademy, Amy then played volleyball
at the University of Maine
at Presque Isle where she was voted MVP of the team during her senior season in
1985. Amy received a Bachelors of
Science degree from Presque Isle majoring in Recreation. Since college Amy has been very involved in
the volleyball scene in Maine. She has refereed high school volleyball and
spent some time coaching at WashingtonAcademy before becoming the
assistant for the Clippers in 2008. Amy
resides in East Machias with her husband Chuck. She has two children, Carilla and Benjamin.
Athletic Director Brac Brady said, "I am very happy to have
Amy Fritz move up into the head coaching roll for our volleyball program. She
is very familiar with our program and the student athletes that we currently
have. The team was very young last year
and should be able to build on what they accomplished last season."
