KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sabree Rodriguez of Maine-Machias has been named the NAIA
Division II Women's Basketball National Player of the Week, the national
office announced Tuesday. Rodriguez was selected based on her performances from
Feb. 8 - 14 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week
selections among 15 conferences.
Rodriguez, a 5-8 freshman, was the leading scorer to guide the Clippers to
three wins last week. The rookie poured in 32 points, connecting on 12-of-20
shots from the floor, and snagged 10 rebounds in a 61-54 win over Maine-Presque
Isle in Sunrise Conference action. Rodriguez followed up with a 34-point
showing against Maine-Augusta in a 92-45 victory. Returning to league play, she
had 19 points as the Clippers defeated Saint Joseph
(Vt.) 85-59.
For the week, the Brockton,
Mass., native hit 31-of-56 shots
(.554) and was a blistering 17-of-20 from the charity stripe (.850).
Rodriguez's 3.7 offensive rebounds per game and 18.3 points per game rank
12th and 18th, respectively.
