The Lady Clippers struggled for much of the first half against visiting Mt. Allison University but found ways to score down the stretch to get the game to overtime Tuesday night picking up a 72-65 win to boost their record to 3-1. Trailing 27-31 at the half and dealing with early foul trouble, the host team stayed close for most of the second half, but never pulled away from the Canadians. Both teams missed free throws down the stretch, but a technical foul on the visitors after fouling gave the Clippers the punch they needed to get the game to overtime.
The Lady Clippers outscored the visitors 12-5 in the extra five minute frame to seal the victory. Making key contributions were Jamyriah McPherson with 13 points, Sabree Rodriguez with 31 points and 10 rebounds, and Elisa Boyd with 11 points before foul trouble ended her night early. McPherson and Rodriguez came up big at the free throw line in key situations where they combined to knock down 16 of 20 attempts.
The Machias team concludes their 5 game opening home stand next Tuesday as they host Maine Maritime Academy in a 5 pm doubleheader with the men's team.
